The LAKERS Academy provides young players (6-9 year old) with fun activities designed to teach fundamental movement skills that are necessary for basketball players. The focus is on the FUNdamental skills, but also includes a Modified Games phase in which basketball is learned here through games such as 1-on-1, 2-on-2, etc. The program will have two one-hour sessions per week from October to March. The four levels of the Academy are based on age and skill level.

The LAKERS Academy is under the direction of LAKERS’ technical director Mike Hickey and is based on the concepts espoused in Canada Sport for Life (CS4L) and Basketball Canada’s Long Term Athlete Development Model (LTAD).
 
LAKERS Academy – Level 1 & 2  (6-7 year old Boys & Girls)                             

This is an instructional program geared towards to children aged 6-7 who have some basketball background and experience. The main focus of this academy is to teach basic basketball skills. The emphasis will be placed on development in a fun environment through age appropriate activities. Children will learn coordination and getting along with others.  This is also a great opportunity for parents who wish to develop their coaching skills.

LAKERS Academy - Level 3 & 4 (7-8 year old Boys & Girls)                                                  
Level 3 & 4 continues emphasis on skill development and introduces team concepts via 3 on 3 and 4 on 4 games. This is also a great opportunity for parents who wish to develop their coaching skills. 

Selection Process: Registration- subject to space availability

Number of teams: 
Level 1 & 2 - 2 groups of 32 players
Level 3 - 2 groups of 24 players
Level 4 - 3 groups of 16 players

Commitment: 2 sessions weekly (one hour each) - Saturday morning & a weekday evening

Program dates: LAKERS Academy runs from October to February.

Note: All players will be provided with a basketball and LAKERS jerseys & shorts.
